Another Day in the Ambulance.
Patient under 35. Just diagnosed with cancer.
Paramedic/ Me: “When did they diagnose you?”
Patient: “A few weeks ago.”
Me: “Do you smoke? Drink?”
Patient: “No.”
Me: “Any other health issues?”
Patient: “No.”
Me: “Did you take the COVID vaccine?”
Patient: “Yes, the first two, but none after that.”
That conversation used to shock me. Now it’s routine. Just another call/ day at work. Another patient whose body has turned against them for no explainable reason. Doctors are still “baffled.”
I see these patients. I look into their eyes. I hear the fear in their voice. I watch young lives unravel, and I can’t unsee it. These aren’t numbers, they’re people suffering.
