Thickness of the Anal Lining, the rectal mucosa (the inner lining of the anus and rectum) consists of multiple layers of epithelial cells, thinner and more delicate than vaginal or external skin tissue. This makes it more susceptible to irritation or microtears.
And according to their own medical literature… ‘engaging in unprotected anal sex increases the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, since the thinner rectal lining can be more prone to microtears, allowing infections to enter the bloodstream’ .
